Maputo, 7 October (AIM) – The Governments of Mozambique and Qatar have signed an agreement to facilitate access by Mozambican nationals to employment in Qatar through regular, safe and reliable channels.

The agreement was signed by Mozambican Labour Minister Ivete Alane and representatives of the Gulf State on the margins of the Doha Dialogue on Labour Migration, held on 5 and 6 October in the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam.

The instrument also establishes a framework for cooperation to facilitate the recruitment and placement of Mozambican workers in Qatar, while ensuring better protection of their rights and mechanisms to monitor their migration processes and working conditions.

According to the Mozambican Government, this agreement represents a step towards creating new employment opportunities for citizens abroad, while ensuring that labour mobility takes place through formal procedures and with guarantees of dignity, security and protection of workers’ rights.

This initiative is taking place in a context of increasing demand for labour migration mechanisms capable of meeting labour market needs while protecting the rights of migrant workers.

However, the signing of the agreement does not mean that vacancies or applications for posts in Qatar are currently open.

The government should announce, through appropriate institutions and formal channels, the procedures, requirements and procedures for access to jobs that may arise.

The Mozambican authorities urged interested citizens to wait for official information and avoid unauthorized intermediaries or advertisements offering alleged employment opportunities in Qatar.

This agreement marks a new stage in bilateral cooperation on labour migration, establishing the legal framework for future employment opportunities for Mozambican workers in Qatar.
